HISTORY OF THE MOUNTRIAL SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT

 

The Mountrail Soil Conservation District came about by the consolidation of the North Mountrail

Soil Conservation District and the Fort Berthold Soil Conservation District in July of 1996. The

North Mountrail Soil Conservation District was first organized as the Rolling Plains Soil

Conservation District and the Two Creeks Soil Conservation District in 1943. The first work unit

leader and conservationist were Don Laurence and Raymond Quinild. The first District

Supervisors for Two Creeks were William Uran, Cassius Hardy and Roscol Hadden. The first

District Supervisors for the Rolling Plains Soil Conversation District were Torry Peterson, Archie

Borg, and Selmer Gandrud. On June 12, 1961 the Rolling Plains SCD and the Two Creeks SCD

were consolidated to form the North Mountrail Soil Conservation District. In 1996 the Fort Berthold

Soil Conservation District and the North Mountrail Soil Conservation District were combined to

Form the Mountrail Soil Conservation District.
